Exalogic Introduction

Dear Readers,

My name is Franz Devantier, creator of this blog.  I am an Oracle Certified Professional (OCP DBA 11g) Security DBA.  I will be sharing with you the basic duties of an Oracle DBA, and also some of the undocumented, and not so well known tasks.

I will make a deal with you:  If you refer me to a company that needs database support, from a few hours per week to full time, and I am able to sign a contract with them.
Then I will give you 10% of the monthly contract or deal price every month.  When the contract ends, and we re-sign the contract, I will again give you 10% of the monthly contract price.  This will go on until the company no longer employs or contracts me or my agents to look after their databases.
I can do this, because that 10% is my marketing budget.  When we re-sign the contract, in the future, it may depend on you giving the thumbs up again, and that is worth 10% of the monthly contract price, to be given to you as commission.

Exalogic Introduction
Understanding Exalogic Control
Exalogic control provides a comprehensive set of features and tools to interact with and manage the Exalogic Virtual Data Center (vDC).  The following broad areas are involved.  Exalogic Machine Management,  Exalogic vDC management,  Exalogic Cloud user Abstraction,  Exalogic Control user interfaces.

 Overview
The Exalogic Control works with the Exalogic Elastic Cloud Software platform to deliver an extendible cloud management solution on the Exalogic machine.  The Exalogic Control is a software management stack that provides onboard capabilities for the Exalogic machine, and vDC management and monitoring.

Exalogic Control offers interfaces for interacting with the Exalogic platform to configure, monitor, and utilize its machine and virtual data center (vDC) resources.  Exalogic Control enables other applications and management tools to interact with the Exalogic platform, using the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) API’s, that are provided.

 Introduction to Exalogic Machine Management
Exalogic Control offers hardware monitoring capabilities, as well as management capabilities that are specific to the defined Exalogic machine hardware.  This is all available from two different points of view:
-> Monitoring and managing individual components in the Exalogic machine.
-> Documented and known relationships between the different hardware components.

Exalogic Control has a Browser User Interface (BUI), which provides Exalogic specific photorealistic views, which present  detailed diagnostic information, in a manner that is specific to context, and location of the hardware components.  BUI does not show the assets as a collection of discovered hardware components.  bUI shows the Exalogic machine as an asset.

You will need the Exalogic Systems Admin role, in order to perform the management tasks offered by Exalogic Control.  Tasks like:
-> Photorealistic visualization
-> Exalogic machine rack as a top-level asset
-> Exalogic fabric and multi-rack relationship
-> Monitoring and alerting
-> Physical fabric or network
-> Fault detection and management
-> Support request management with My Oracle Support
-> Hardware replacement lifecycle
-> Exalogic system reports

 Introduction to Exalogic vDC Management
You can administer the Exalogic vDC and its resources with the Exalogic Control.
-> Management of the Exalogic fabric.  This constitutes the vDC.
-> Configuration and management of the vDC.
-> Monitoring of the vDC resources
-> Public network configuration (EolB)
-> partition key (p-key) allocation and tracking.
-> Creation and setup of accounts in the vDC.
-> Resource Quota management
-> Network resource allocation
-> Storage resource allocation

 Exalogic Cloud User Abstractions
Exalogic cloud user tasks are performed by users with the Cloud User Role.  Exalogic control provides the Cloud User with an IaaS abstraction for provisioning application deployments to the cloud.  These are some of the features offered by Exalogic cloud for user with the Cloud User Role.
-> Ability to provision customer applications into the Exalogic vDC.
-> Web service and Command Line Interface (CLI) interfaces.
-> Virtual machine (vServer) configuration
-> Virtual machine (vServer) lifecycle and control
-> Allocation and management of resources, such as private vNets, Volumes, and external IP.
-> Dynamic private network creation.
-> Public network binding

 Exalogic Control User Interfaces
Exalogic Control provides the following management user interfaces.
-> Browser User Interface (BUI), for machine management, vDC management, and cloud user tasks.
-> IaaS API’s
-> Command Line Interface (CLI) for cloud
